5 Oils that are Essential for Winter

November 14, 2018

There is no denying it, winter is upon us. The days are getting shorter, the temperatures are getting colder, and we all are starting to wonder where summer went. Just like most of you, winter is a very difficult time of the year for me. From dry skin to holiday stress, it starts to weigh on you. Along with the bone-chilling temperatures, winter also brings with it a list of other issues for people. Seasonal depression, stress from the holidays, cold sores...the list goes on and on, that’s just the “cold” reality of winter.

There are ways out there to help combat these troublesome issues associated with winter and the cold weather! One of the best ways that I have found to be extremely helpful is the use of essential oils. Essential oils are great for a lot of different things but some specific oils are really good at reducing and even help prevent the issues associated with winter! Here is a list of the top 5 essential oils to use during the winter:

  1. Bergamot: One of the biggest issues people have during the winter time is staying healthy! If you are constantly getting sick, try putting a few drops of Bergamot oil in your diffuser to help boost your immune system and keep those pesky colds away!
  2. Eucalyptus: This oil is great if you are one of the unlucky ones to catch a cold. Eucalyptus oil is a fantastic way to help reduce the symptoms of chest colds and bronchitis! So, next time you’re feeling a little under the weather put some Eucalyptus oil in your diffuser!
  3. Tea tree: If you have issues with cold sores as soon as that temp starts to go down, you’re not alone! Tea tree oil is great for cold sores because it has antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and antiviral properties. Just take some of your Tea tree oil and mix it with a carrier oil (coconut or jojoba oil) and apply it to your cold sore with a clean cotton swab!
  4. Peppermint: The holiday season comes with a lot of stress. It also comes with a lot of food, and if you are like me your eyes are too big for your stomach! If that’s you, then you probably get pretty nauseous. Don’t worry! Peppermint is very effective at combating nausea! Rub a few drops on your abdomen and wrist to soothe that nasty feeling away!
  5. Ylang Ylang: There is no denying that we all get a little blue from time to time during the winter. Some, however, suffer from seasonal depression which can be very debilitating and troublesome. Ylang Ylang oil is very effective in fighting those effects of depression and nervous tension! If you are suffering from seasonal depression I would definitely recommend trying Ylang Ylang oil in your diffuser.

There it is! Try and incorporate these oils into your daily routine and see the benefits for yourself. You can never be too prepared this time of year. Have a great day, and see you all next week!
